Physiotherapy
Physiotherapists are registered primary health care professionals who are trained to combine their in-depth knowledge of the body with specialized hands on clinical skills to assess, diagnose, and treat symptoms of illness, injury or disability. Orthopaedic physiotherapists assess and treat a variety of different acute and chronic injuries and conditions, affecting all regions of the body, which may include pre and post surgery.
Registered Massage Therapy
Massage therapy consists primarily of hands-on manipulation of the soft tissues of the body, specifically, the muscles, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and joints for the purpose of optimizing health.
Massage therapy treatment has a therapeutic effect on the body and optimizes health and well-being by acting on the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems. Physical function can be developed, maintained and improved; and physical dysfunction and pain and the effects of stress can be relieved or prevented through the use of Massage Therapy.
Modern massage techniques can be traced back to the 1700s and the development of Swedish massage, the first systematic method of therapeutic massage based on physiology. Today’s Massage Therapists use their knowledge of anatomy and physiology to combine traditional Swedish and modern Massage Therapy techniques with exercise and other therapies to treat their clients.
Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
Pelvic floor muscle dysfunction is assessed by a specialized physiotherapist who performs an internal exam to assess the level of tone and (high or low) of each of pelvic floor muscles, and the ability of these muscles to contract (strength) and relax. The joints, muscles, bones and connective tissue of the external lumbo-pelvis (hips, low back and sacroiliac joints) will also be assessed as the dysfunction in any of these areas can result in, or be the result of, pelvic floor muscle dysfunction.
Holistic Nutrition
Why see a holistic nutritionist?
Not only is the online health world often contradictory, confusing and frequently changing - none of the information available online is personalized to the individual’s unique health history or to the realities of their lifestyle.
Working 1:1 with a practitioner is beneficial because you work as a team in developing a strategy that is specific to your health. A health plan can only be effective if it takes into account how you best operate and what you need to prioritize in order to move closer to achieving your health goals. This is exactly what nutrition consultations aim to provide - realistic steps that reduce your most uncomfortable symptoms, help you feel more energized and connected to that sense of vitality and bring you closer to achieving your health goals.
Although nutrition can help improve a multitude of conditions, these are the areas Liv has a special interest in.
Digestion and gut health: Gut health is foundational to whole-body health. New research is coming out all the time connecting the gut microbiome to physiological systems like the immune system, hormones, the brain, heart and skin. Within the context of digestion, appropriate nutrition can have a massive impact on improving conditions like IBS, GERD, stomach pain and constipation.
Hormone health: Our society is not set up to support hormonal health - this contributes to many experiencing burn out, irregular and painful periods, issues with fertility and major symptoms associated with menopause. Learning how to come back into balance with your hormone cycles, at whatever stage you are at in life, can be a powerful way to reclaim your health and energy.
Skin health: Supporting your skin can look like eating a nutrient-dense diet (based off of foods that you actually like) that supports collagen and elastin production, hydration, circulation, antioxidation and skin cell-regeneration. Working on gut and hormone health will also have a massive impact on skin health and longevity.
ADHD: Since the brain is the most metabolically active organ in the body, it functions most effectively when it has access to an appropriate amount and variety of nutrients. Being a complicated brain condition, many people with ADHD notice a significant change in the severity of their symptoms when they make adjustments to their diet. The presentation of ADHD can make this really difficult, but working with a neurodiverse nutritionist (Liv, the nutritionist, has ADHD) is a great way to make this a reality without getting overwhelmed and frustrated.
Intuitive Eating: Liv is currently in the process of becoming a certified intuitive eating counselor. She’s completed two out of the three components and is aiming to be fully certified by the end of year. Intuitive eating is a modality that rejects diet culture in every form and gives us the tools to reconnect with our hunger signals so we can make choices related to the foods we eat that ultimately make us feel good in our bodies and nourish us. Liv generally uses an intuitive eating framework in her practice, with the option for the client to go deeper into learning how to become an intuitive eater.
